I don’t really BELIEVE that’s going to happen, but it’s the only way I can convince myself that pulling the level for Limburger Cheese is actually pulling the lever for Roses.

1. Obama had not actually promised to filibuster against any bill that contained telecom immunity waaaaaaaay back in teh prehistoric days of January. Now he’s not only not going to filibuster it, but he’ll vote for the damn thing anyway; and

2. I had not convinced myself that Obama actually understands that you don’t have to accept GOP issue-framing (“Oh noes!!!The FISA is broken!! It iz useless against Teh Terrists!!”) in order to fight the Republicans on the national security front.

The second one is my fault, but the first is all him.

I’ll still vote for him. But I doubt I’ll volunteer or give him money, because for me the number one issue of this campaign is not the war, nor is it the economy. It is the restoration of the Constitution, and the reversal of the damages done to it by the Bush administration. Even beyond the telecom immunity provisions, this bill expands presidential surveillance powers in ways that are not consistent with our right to be free of unreasonable search and seizure. And despite what he said in January, now Obama plans to vote for it, probably because he wants those powers for himself. But don’t worry – we can trust him.

Set aside Obamajeebus and obamajeebusism.

I never had them in the first place, though I have frequently seen them invoked by people who couldn’t understand why they were losing to Obama. They pretty much went into a shell, but called everyone else irrational.
