Could we just agree to never use folk songs in our political discourse ever again? It just… there’s too many. No matter how good the ad is (like this one) the cheez is old and moldy and makes my skin crawl.
Quiz: Which of the following quotes are from people describing McCain and which ones are from Colonel Trautman talking about John Rambo?
A. “Everyone knows about his temper, his inability to get along with people.”
B. “[He] goes in, a decorated vet, he finds no POWs, the Congress buys it – case closed!”
C. “What makes you think you can handle him now? Only God knows what damage he’s prepared to do.”
D. “This is a guy who lived in one house for five and a half years — in prison.”
E. “[He] is the best combat vet I’ve ever seen. A pure fighting machine with only a desire – to win a war that someone else lost. And if winning means he has to die – he’ll die. No fear, no regrets. And one more thing, what you choose to call hell, he calls home.”
F. “He had to carry a different burden than most of us and he handled it beautifully. He didn’t need any coping mechanism; that’s just built into him.”

Billy, Billy, Billy…. This isn’t a folk song; this is Sam Cooke.
It’s second act for “No We Can’t?” Pithy, humorous, ties McCain to Bush. Paste that sucker on that photo of McCain breast feeding off Bush, Lieberman smooching Bush, etc. Golden. The photos are the key. If you want to tie Bush to McCain show a photo of Bush and McCain. Don’t leave an image of Barack at the end of the ad, that’s what the viewers brain will retain and involve with the negative images. Just my opinion. That little circle Obama logo is fine. It’s iconic enough at this point.

Yeah, but he sang it folky, not soulful.
Like whiskey brewed from granola.

From a pure marketing standpoint I think the lyrics are too fast and there should be some kind of logo or image of Obama at the end of the piece.
Otherwise, sure, it’s ok.

Here’s my slogan for the campaign,
“Four More Years?”

Of course the final act is,
“McCain Eats Babies?”

Obama needs to take care not to upset the all important smooth music demographic.

I watched it without the sound, and it was devastating.
