The situation is grim for Port Arthur, Texas, on the Louisiana border. The expected storm surge of 15-20 feet will overtop the city’s seawall by six feet, resulting in flooding of the city and a number of major oil refineries. Expect a significant tightening of gas supplies in coming months, due to extensive damage to the oil refineries in the Houston and Port Arthur area.
Alaska’s next to Russia, though. Consider that. Also global warming’s a myth. And not a problem.
Five dollar gas, here we come.
September 12, 2008 at 11:01 am
Is Sarah Palin also aware of whether or not Texas is next to Russia?
September 12, 2008 at 12:05 pm
texas has many germans in it, as well as mexicans and other central americans.
that makes it central to the war on terror, as its national guard has been deployed to fight hurricane Ike, and 9/11 where it borders our children not needing to learn foreign languages gabba gabba hey.
that sentence makes more sense than anything any republican spokesman has said about palin in the past 2 days. admittedly i’ve set the bar low.
September 12, 2008 at 12:29 pm
“admittedly i’ve set the bar low.”
Set the bar as low as you like. The GOP will easily slither beneath it.

I told my 70 year-old mother to clear out the spare bedroom if gas does go to $5.00 a gallon. The idea makes us both cringe and we’ll probably end our first week together at knifepoint. But as a very part-time worker in the once overtime-only world of real estate, it’s so fucking possible that it has been giving me panic attacks.
Prolly should buy stock in Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Here’s a question: Will the desire of the oil companies to jack up the price because of the excellent excuse the hurricane provides override the desire of the oil companies to deflate the price prior to the election to get a Republican in office?
September 12, 2008 at 5:10 pm
It will test my theory. I think it was 70% speculation. As the ppb went up on it’s arc to $200 anything would trigger a buying spree. Someone shot a hole in a pipeline in Nigeria, oil shoots up $20. Whatever happens that can possibly be construed as a hit on the oil industry created these huge jumps.
Then it hit $200 and as people started unwinding their positions, nothing changed the direction. OPEC says they are cutting production, price goes down. Pipeline get’s blown up in Nigeria price goes down.
OTOH, I could see a hurricane trashing Galveston and the price of oil going down while the price of gasoline goes ballistic.

This is clearly God’s punishment for the damage caused by a group of sociopathic Texans who are supported by a bunch of people who like to interpret extreme weather events as punishments by God on people who do things that make their messy bits all tingly.

Does the Poor Man Institute have a list of issues which McCain and Palin have not yet flip-flopped on?
I think drilling is one of them (even if global warming isn’t). And abortion.

I think a anti-Palin backlash is eminent. Voters are more educated then the last time Dan Quayle was slipped into their drinks. I don’t think Obama has to go negative because just because absurdly negative ads motivate GOP voters doesn’t mean that it motivates undecideds that are willing to vote for Obama, does it motivate our base? We have so much 527 money, direct mail targets. I understand holding fire until you see the whites of their eyes, but what the funk are our 527s holding back. Union members pay their dues so union 527s fight for their interests while their pulling wire in a ditch in the sun. Do work!
I do think we need to have a full court press on reasserting our agenda through the media. That means you have to make news. It was close to this time in 1999 that Colin Powell was pre-designated as Bush’s sec of state if Obama can help voters envision what his cabinet would look like and take the attention off Palin with a his own intelligent selection(s) we might control the pace again.
What if a Walrus named Danny was appointed as Secretary of Defense! Of course Danny is a maverick Walrus! That should captivate the media for a month and place a wedge in some slighted faction. Danny the renegade Walrus is ready to lead, just because he doesn’t understand language doesn’t mean you look down on him.
Shock and awe. Watch the shiny, moving metal.
Can you hear me David Plough?

Sarah Palin looked in the mirror the other day and saw…Monica Goodling.
Would anyone in their right mind vote for Monica Goodling to be vice-president, someone a heartbeat away from being president?
Well, Sarah Palin IS Monica Goodling.
Just like Goodling, Palin abused her position of public trust, using her public office for personal/religious vendettas.
Just like Goodling, Palin lied, lied, lied, while claiming to be a follower of Jesus Christ, who I really doubt is the Prince of Lies.
Just like Goodling, Palin is unqualified to hold any government position, especially not vice-president or (God help us) president.
Palin equals Goodling, with the same disdain for the rule of law, our Constitution, the will of our founding fathers to keep church and state separate.
Palin equals Goodling, with all the horror this entails for the freedom-loving women of our nation.

He looks just like Teed’s avatar, but with squintier eyes and much longer sideburns… if such a thing is possible.

I really don’t understand why Obama’s people aren’t using the word “lie” when they talk about McCain. What are they afraid of? I just don’t get it. Do they think the republicans are holding something back, not beig as nasty as they really could be? I suppose that’s possible.

Actually, McCain has flipped on drilling- he was agin’ it before he was fer it. And who the hell knows what his position on abortion rights is anymore? What day is it?
As for Palin, who cares? She’s mooselicious!

Five dollar gas, here we come.
It may tick up there, but by mid-Sept, barring anymore big storms, it’ll be back “down” to $3.50 +, just in time for the quadrennial electoral dysfunction.
Then back to $4.50-5.00 by January…

By the way, if anyone’s interested, I posted on this matter Friday.

I really don’t like where this election is going. If I was a doctor, I’d be checking my patient in the hospital. Where the fuck is the money going? G’Damn. Media Buys aren’t working.
The combination of latent East Coast/Industrial Midwest Catholic racism and the ticket splitting philosophical retards are just the worst. Hopefully the hidden mass of newly registered cell phone users will save us. I don’t like this.
