- Chad Myers, “Global warming is a cover-up for ACID OCEANS!!”
- Camille Paglia, “A new blog will bring scientific rigor to the global warming debate“
- Charlie Daniels, “Global warming is a yankee conspiracy!“

I’d argue for retiring Easterbrook’s number and inducting him into the Hall of Fame immediately, but sadly people are still paying him to write “science” columns.

Yeah, Easterbrook really should be inducted into the hall of fame and retired from contention. Did he do one of his patented “liberal environmentalists are all hypocritical stupidheads for not acknowledging what a friend of the environment George W. Bush is” posts this year? I love those.
Excellent video pick, BTW.

Normally I wouldn’t be inclined to vote for Chad Myers, since this particular doofosity only came out a few weeks ago and hasn’t had time to age and mature and show real staying power… but, honestly, I don’t see how any of the others can top his theory that global warming is a) entirely caused by sunspots and b) not happening. The mental agility and sophistication required to hold two contradictory wrong opinions at the same time… it’s just staggering. It’s like Schrödinger’s Climate! So for me the choice is clear.
December 24, 2008 at 12:42 pm
It must be Myers.
Look, Easterbrook is an easy target and his stunning intellectual shallowness on issues of science combined with his eagereness to engage in debate where he is intellectually outgunned on a massive scale makes him beyond legendary.
However, Chad Myers should know better and displays a similar level of clueless wrongness.

Call me sentimental, but I can’t read this:
“The old-guard feminist establishment has also rushed out of cold storage to embrace Hillary Clinton via tremulous manifestoes of gal power that have startlingly exposed the sentimental slackness of thought that made Gloria Steinem and company wear out their welcome in the first place.”
…without thrilling to fond recollections of the robust, insane writings of Marinetti, Severini, and the other Futurists. Yes, yes, granted: Easterbrook owns the franchise. But I’m “a Paglia man,” and am proud to say so.
December 24, 2008 at 3:08 pm
It’s turning into a blow-out: Easterbrook is going to take this one in a walk … the others’ entries sound much duller, whereas his entry has that old-school razzamatazz that’s been so sorely lacking in anti-climate-change psychos lately.
I’d wish everyone a Merry Yuletide, but let’s face it – between the suicide-spike, the annual bloodbath on the highways & the impending wave of debt, Ye Olde Xmas licks the taint of dead rats.
So stay safe, & enjoy the time-off!

I’m too distracted by the hawtness that is Dolby and Pyke to vote right now. Let me play it one more time and then, I swear, I’ll votr.

I’m wondering if the Editors could share their wingnut blogroll? Need Morf1!!1

This is all I need to know about science.
This guy,
http://mikesdumbmerica.blogspot.com/
is a soldier. I’d rather watch Burn After Reading then devote my life to refuting a crazy ex-GHW Bush EPA Administrator and conveniently prior a member of the first office of political affairs for Reagan. Won’t reveal his lobbying career. This guy pisses me off more then all the rest because he took tax payer dollars, flaunts it, but won’t release his public information, plus he spreads disinformation of the knowing he’s wrong, but using his podium and his unsubstantiated bona-fides as a platform to spread straight-up, dummy proof lies. You can lie for free, but don’t do it on our dime.

Off topic: happy holidays to The Editors, whom I love with the passion of a thousand suns. Or asteroids — whichever hits first. Looking forward to more glorious snark in 2009.

I’m voting for Esterbrook (who owns this category), but someone has to put in a good word for my Senator, who has been the most politically consequential voice of unreason on this issue for years.
December 24, 2008 at 8:17 pm
SCIENCE!
(had to add that, as listening to that Thomas Dolby number provides me with Vietnam-combat-intensity flashbacks of my freshman year of college)
December 24, 2008 at 10:29 pm
@Evan, I’m with you. Myers just tore the cover off the ball with his stupidosity.
December 25, 2008 at 10:07 am
For me it was a close call between Chad “AGW is arrogant but ocean acidification isn’t” Myers and James “How much money? NOT ENOUGH!!!” Inhofe. In the end I chose Myers, because he has more head-exploding power.
December 25, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Paglia, simply because Salon is witless enough to keep her on the payroll while ditching Charles Taylor and Murray Waas.
December 26, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Easterbrook gets my vote, though it is a strong field and a close call, any one of them would have been a worthy winner.
December 26, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Obviously you are not aware of the well established S Fred Awards for spreading science disinformation and climatology incoherence and the newer Tim Ball given for resume stretching beyond the elastic limit.
Past winners of the S. Fred include God, nominated by n3xus6

A tough choice here, as all are worthy wankers, but in the spirit of the real Nobels, I vote for Inhofe. Over the years, he has developed a promising hypothesis into a coherent theory – global warming is a fraud perpetrated by evil conspiratorial scientists. He has collected an impressive quantity of data (pulled from you-know-where), published in peer-reviewed journals (the press that prints whatever the wingnuts put out), and earned the support of mainstream thinking in his field (he keeps getting elected).
December 27, 2008 at 12:16 am
Another Paglia fan. She should surely get bonus points for being published in Salon, which means her pose as an iconoclast must have convinced someone who should know better.
December 27, 2008 at 4:00 pm
Wait. I don’t think Easterbrook is blaming global warming on gamma bursts (which is his whole Death-Star-Exploding hypothesis for their origins… I think). And anyone who speaks well of the Football Gods holds well in my book. So I’m cutting him some slack.
Inhofe’s attempt at juvenile wankery, though, by ignoring the whole issue by insulting the guy talking about it… he earns my scorn.
December 27, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Doctor Memory is right, but the guilty must still be punished.
December 30, 2008 at 9:29 pm
I was sorely tempted to vote for Inhofe just because he’s Inhofe, but, no, I can’t pass up the Easterbrook.
January 1, 2009 at 4:36 am
Nothing compares to Paglia. She’s an ambulatory Sokal hoax some disgusted hipster god is playing on people who imagine they see content there amid the bombast (Andrew Sullivan, say, or those straining contrarians at Salon).
