Where Madoff really had his business was Jewish charities, Especially right-wing settler type charities. There was heavy pressure within the “I *heart* Israel crowd to patronize his fund.

What happens next election cycle if AIPAC and their brethren have to send out letters of apology instead of checks? If they get stiffed, I think you may see a sudden attack of “conscience” out of the congresscritters.

“Without consequences” my ass – Olmert may pass the buck smoother than Bush, or just as ineptly, but either way that buck is still real. Using a cease-fire agreement for Charmin may give him a wee rush of narcissistic joy, but history is going to bend him over the hood hard for it – because I think that this time, the stupid gesture is every bit as dangerous as it is moronic.

Every single one of those thousand-plus dead has relatives … & fucking with peoples’ families is a sure-fire ticket to Hurtin’ County. That ticket is now well & duly punched.

Israel just pissed away its (ever-slimmer) chances of being able to sleep at night on a regular basis – or go out for a meal or a coffee – without worrying about someone blowing its ass sky-high … for years to come. As “retribution” for fewer deaths & injuries than a single major car-accident.

But thank goodness we’ve got Joe The Plunger on the case, giving everyone Teh Skoup on the situation … I’m amazed that part of the world isn’t as lush as the Amazon – the sheer surplus of bullshit (both domestic & imported) would seem to make it biologically inevitable.
