Thanks for the Bill Withers. You spurred me to pull out his excellent live at Carnegie Hall 1973 album, listening now.
Hope I’m not out of line if I post a couple overlooked cool ones from the era.
Black Merda (was originally Black Murder, but they figured that was maybe too harsh for whitey in 1970):
Brothers Unlimited:
And for Kenmeer, some of the Trenier brothers, whose part in helping create rock and roll in the late 40s early 50s has long been overlooked. Bill Haley switched from a cowboy band to rock and roll after he took in a Treniers show. Wild stage shows, alternately funny and dirty lyrics, mock fights among band members, etc. All their videos are worth watching, including the one with Jerry Lewis hamming it up after being ‘thrown’ the dance.
The Treniers:
And one of my favorite songs ever, more Treniers (warning, slightly sexist…uncut album version is better):

Bill Withers was a dockworker or an Irish thug. Where’s his natty bowler, tipped to one side?
