Using the Fox News/Glenn Beck/(Gary) Rupert Murdoch hidden racism decoder ring, I’d say this interview excerpt puts Michael Steele squarely in the Killwhitey With Attitude camp:
MARTIN: One of the criticisms I’ve always had is Republicans — white Republicans — have been scared of black folks.
STEELE: You’re absolutely right. I mean I’ve been in the room and they’ve been scared of me.
Normally, pointing out the fact that the head of the RNC is a flagrant racist would be stating the obvious in a man-bites-dog kind of way. But under the circumstances, there’s at least a little glitter on the paste.

Attitudes can kill?
Your Jedi tricks won;t work on me, whelp.

I’ve heard that when Steele walks around the mall, he wears his pants belted but hanging around his knees as is the style in the real black hood. (I’ve seen pictures of this black people fashion in the NYT magazine so it’s double true). The problem is that he wears some sort of cardigan and navy blue blazer to cover his undies at the same time.
That’s, like, so FAIL, dude.

Am I allowed to use the word “asshole” on this blog? Because if I am, I must say that that Steele fellow is quite the asshole.

I believe it’s a requirement.

There’s a monthly quota

Klein is light years better than Kirchick. And there’s only about a half dozen people other than Kirchick for which that statement is even plausible.

And we’re once again left marveling at the complete lack of self awareness on the right. Steele wants everyone to know that the GOP isn’t a white racist party. Yet, he acknowledges that it’s a bunch of white guys who are afraid of him because he’s black.
Uh-huh.

@Derelict: Exactly. This is entirely consistent with the GOP’s policy of all doublethink, all the time. See, e.g., “A Very Serious Paradox” posted by curv3ball in this very space but a few days ago.

Seele: I am NOT contradicting myself! I’m contradicting my invisible evil twin, who is very very afraid of black people!

Hello, is this thing on?
November 12, 2009 at 12:21 pm
ahem.
This is scary.

It’s tempting to attribute all this irrational Obama hatred to racial bigotry, but I think irrationality is best served without salad dressing.
People who hate Obama hate him, I think, because their political experience has trained them to appreciate any president but one who is actually qualified and earnestly trying to make balanced decisions that will promote more good than harm.
Many feel that reagan was earnest in this way, and I’ll go along with it: I don;t really know.
But he was undoubtedly unqualified.
Same with Carter. Although Carter did a brilliant job of assessing the major challenges to be addressed in the final 1/4 of the 20th century (energy/environment, period), he lacked the political chops to pull it over.
Obama is, I believe, that intelligent and accomplished street-savvy survivor who can actually take the political Hippocratic Oath and use it as more than an excuse to do next to nothing.
This, I think, freaks a whole buncha people the fuck out.

In Wingnuttia, intelligence is just code for LiberalSocialistFascistMarxist indocrtination! These things like “qualifications” and “resumes” are just a smoke screen to force old ladies to read the Communist Manifesto while getting abortions after being raped by black gay men affilliated with ACORN.
Now, being able to imagine yourself tossing around the pigskin with the President, or perhaps imagining yourself doing a couple of keg stands with him after a very manly day out in the woods hunting elk with your new semi-automatic RPG with laser scope… THAT’s the kind of President we really need. All these liberal “qualifications” like education and such? Puh-lease.

As Randi Rhodes is fond of saying, when they (the repugs) tell you who or what they are, BELIEVE THEM.
Michael Steele’s unconscious told the interviewer the quite obvious truth about how the repugs view minorities and he (Steele) thought he was making a funny.

They’re afraid of Michael Steele? No wonder they think “Ay-rab turrists” are superhuman maniacs who make Thor look like a limp wristed sissy….

I like glitter in my paste. It’s added roughage.
