Gotta agree with Doug E Fresh and the Juicers, this Tea Party breakdown is a thing of beauty:
“You know when I was a little boy, there was an old negro farmer that lived down the road from us, named Monroe. He was … (subtle laugh), I guess he was just a little more luckier than my daddy was. He bought himself a mule.
It was a big deal in round that town. Now my daddy hated that mule. Cause, his friends were always kidding him about, “They saw Monroe out plowing with his new mule and Monroe is going to rent another field now he had a mule.”
One morning that mule showed up dead. They poisoned the water. After that, there wasn’t any mention about that mule around my daddy. It just never came up. One time we were driving down that road and we passed Monroe’s place and we saw it was empty. He just packed up and left, I guess, he must of went up north or something.
I looked over at my daddy’s face, I knew he done it. He saw that I knew. He was ashamed. I guess he was ashamed. He looked at me and said, “If you ain’t better than a nigger son, who are you better than?”" – Agent Anderson, Mississippi Burning
And welcome to the Tea-hadist mindset. With Barack Obama in charge…who are you going to be better than?
And don’t think some of us recognize the symptom because we are a pack of condescending know-it-all asshats. We are…but that has fuck-all to do with the observation.
It’s just that we have seen this before. Up North…in our so-called “enlightened” neck of the woods.
Want to know the difference between North and South? Well, a man once told me that up North, it is OK to have a Black as your boss, but you will be damned if you will have one for a neighbor. Down South, it is OK to have a Black neighbor…but you will damned if you will have one as a boss.
So we went through all this Tea Party nonsense up North, about 20-30 years ago. And the reaction was just as vehement, inarticulate, and dumb as what is being spewed now. If you want to see hate and spittle, you should have seen how South Boston reacted to school integration.
But you would not have seen it 24/7 as you do today. It happened…but not in a perpetual echo chamber. And thank Christ for that.
And if you think the enlightened liberal North embraced integrated housing with open hearts, think again, It was called “white flight” and it damn near emptied some cities. “Sure, we support integration…now excuse us while we move to the suburbs where those Zulus won’t be able to spear us with their assegais.”
But white flight was a safety valve. It kept the pressure at reasonable levels. It also prolonged it and led to new levels of stupidity, but you could, after all, vote with your feet. Many did. Many still do.
OK, the job front was a bit stickier. Northern Industry has always been (at least since the 1950′s) largely integrated. Steel Mill owners don’t give a fuck what your skin color is. Besides, you could only tell on the way into work, on the way out everybody pretty much looked the same.
But you always knew what hand you were playing, because the cards were mostly dealt face up. Your boss was still white. Your union steward was still white. Your mayor and your chief of police were still white. And, as much as it pains me to tell you this, Michael Steele did not run the GOP. And even if he did, at least up north, you went home at the end of the day to your own private Idaho in the suburbs, and played golf on the weekends at a club where Michael Steele was never going to get in. Well, not the front door.
Do go read the rest…

April 6, 2010 at 5:12 pm
This racist’s gone to heaven.
April 6, 2010 at 5:21 pm
Yeah, I agree for the most part. Most of this Tea Party bullshit is just racism dressed up as some sort of “progressive” political movement, whatever that means these days.
That said, there’s also a serious disconnect across the political spectrum these days about what any of the traditional terms actually mean anymore. To my mind, Obama and his acolytes are about as far away from the term “liberal” as I can possibly imagine, never mind “socialist” and “communist.”
Actually, I prefer the term “Corporate Elitist” for any politician currently in office, in tacit recognition of the masters they serve and the policies they enact. Alas, the USA once had a thriving democracy – although it was, in truth, probably never quite as “thriving” or “democratic” as we imagine it was.
Those days are certainly over now for a number of reasons; but relax, I’m certain we’ll take comfort (with the certain assistance of the MSM marketing and Hollywood myth-making machines) in years of nostalgia-based luxury yet to come. As the self defined “masters of the universe,” we’ve always been good at that.
April 7, 2010 at 4:45 pm
I prefer the term “Corporate Elitist” for any politician currently in office, in tacit recognition of the masters they serve and the policies they enact.
Dennis Kucinich, for one, has the voting record to contest your brutal allegation. I don’t know much about anyone else, though.
But these stupid labels don’t really amount to much at all, and all of us know it. 75 years ago the Bush et posse would have been called Liberals, for liberalism was primarily an economic outlook.
The policies Obama has promoted are squarely centrist, and as you called, corporate elitist.
But I’m still glad I voted for him, considering who the choices were. But I voted for Kucinich in the primary. And in the previous elections, Nader. Duh.
April 8, 2010 at 6:32 pm
Agreed. “Considering the alternative” DOES always rear its ugly head doesn’t it?
That said, I’m thinking that the day is rapidly approaching when that rationale is simply not good enough anymore.
As in NOW!
April 6, 2010 at 6:00 pm
To my mind, Obama and his acolytes are about as far away from the term “liberal” as I can possibly imagine…
Really? Then you need to take your imagination out for a stroll more often.
April 6, 2010 at 6:37 pm
Really? I would have suggested you constrain yours first; but of course that’s not good form.
“Liberals?” They’re all about these days, aren’t they?
April 6, 2010 at 7:09 pm
Peorgie,
Admit it, it REALLY hurts to get attacked from both the left AND the right doesn’t it?
Come on now, admit it.
Question? Exactly when did you give up and just agree to vote for “whomever?” Was there a specific date, or, like most Americans did you just kind of say “fuck it” and capitulate?
It’s OK. I understand. I voted for the sellout too. You’re hardly alone.
April 7, 2010 at 7:03 am
Well, I could imagine that Bush and McCain and Palin would be farther from Liberal than Obama.
Obama’s not as near as I would like, but he’s sure a lot closer than the Cheney Gang.
April 7, 2010 at 10:34 am
What curv3 said. In primaries, I vote for the most liberal candidate and a pony. After that candidate inevitably loses the primary, in the general I drop the pony and vote for the most liberal candidate, even if that candidate isn’t at my Euro-socialist outlook level. Lesser of two evils is all we got. I suspect it’s all we’ve ever had.
What else would you have me do? Stay home and pout because my preferred candidate isn’t in the general election at all? That doesn’t sound like a solution to me. (I’m a grown-up.)
April 7, 2010 at 1:23 pm
“(I’m a grown-up.)”
Yeah? Well, yo mama dresses yo avatah funny. You look like Robbie Douglas. In an anti-meth commercial, but still…
April 8, 2010 at 6:56 pm
Curv3,
“Well, I could imagine that Bush and McCain and Palin would be farther from Liberal than Obama. Obama’s not as near as I would like, but he’s sure a lot closer than the Cheney Gang.”
Really? Faint praise, INDEED!
April 8, 2010 at 7:03 pm
Grandlaff,
I’d suggest you redefine your definition of “grown up” for one. I’d also add the admonition GROW UP! But that would probably be bad form, now wouldn’t it?
April 6, 2010 at 9:43 pm
I think that is the problem. When you stop using your imagination, then all you have left is reality.
In reality, Obama is not much of a Liberal at all.
April 7, 2010 at 7:18 am
2L4O!
yeah, seen that.
April 7, 2010 at 2:39 pm
“all you have left is reality”
There goes reality’s alleged leftist slant. Wait a minute. Did you mean ‘all you have leftIST is reality’?

You’re in the wrong place for that. Pwoggies are just as sunk in their lesser-evil bullshit as freepers are in their crypto-racist bullshit. Like the old saying goes – There’s no point in arguing with moral cretins, the severely retarded and Scientologists.

Or Naderites.
April 7, 2010 at 1:09 pm
We can debate without pretending to be able to read others’ minds. Ground-breaking research in Soviet mind-labs have confirmed this, and old tesla patents are being dusted off to make it all commercially feasible.

Of course, that one was so good it’s almost all money quotes.
April 7, 2010 at 6:58 am
i wont say that this is total nonsense b/c there are obviously some racists involved like those guys that shouted the n word at the congressmen. but its mostly nonsense b/c think about it if al gore or john kerry was president it would still be the same. ppl are upset at liberalism and the fact that obama happens to be black does not make the movement racist. btw im not a tea party member i have love in my heart not anger.
also the analagy of the boston busing program is off the mark as well. now i wasnt alive when it happened but from what ive heard first of all it was worse in charlestown than south boston. but more than that it wasnt that they were bringing the blacks to the schools in those neighborhoods they were sending the white kids all the way across the city so they had to spend over two hours a day on school buses when there was a school just around the corner. and they also only did it to the poor white kids from the projects. they didnt make any kids from rich neighborhoods or suburbs ride across town.
April 7, 2010 at 7:08 am
im not saying there werent racists in the busing movement too b/c there is that famous picture of that guy getting attacked with the american flag. so there were racists but i think that the movement itself didnt start out racist and most of the ppl against the busing werent racists.
April 7, 2010 at 10:32 am
Sure. Same with the people that objected to open housing laws that prohibited discriminating against potential homebuyers.
It’s not that they were racist, they just didn’t want black people living in their neighborhoods. Which is so not racist lol
April 7, 2010 at 10:59 am
harris, there are still some “sundown towns” in Indiana and Illinois, and probably elsewhere in the North too. There were many hundreds if not thousands of sundown towns in the middle of the 20th century. They may not advertise the fact, but some are still there, still all-white. The North wanted the slaves to be free, but sure as hell didn’t want them slaves coming north to live.
April 7, 2010 at 1:12 pm
I have a theory: harris is a former professional beauty pageant contestant still pining in hir way, for world peace and and end to global hunger.
Can’t knock that.

April 7, 2010 at 11:29 am
In re racism in the north: when my wife, who happens to be African-American, decided to buy a (co-op) apartment, she was steered to particular buildings (which are not necessarily the best deals in the world) because co-op boards get to choose who is allowed to join the co-op — and, at least as of 10 years ago — many co-op boards would, for no given reason, systematically turn down black applicants. And this is in NYC!
April 7, 2010 at 11:32 am
Where I grew up in a suburb of NYC it was an open, and revered, secret that real estate agents would not even show houses/apts to black buyers/renters.
But that wasn’t racism. Just liberals blaming lack of diversity in my town on racism. lol.
April 7, 2010 at 11:44 am
Well, that’s exactly how it worked and perhaps still works in NYC — the real estate agents know which buildings are which: they know in which buildings they will let you in. I am not even sure if my wife even tried to purchase in any buildings where she knew they hadn’t let blacks in for who knows how long.
Interestingly, my area is very Jewish. I’m sure this time around it will help that not only will there be a white face involved (mine — although my face is more pinkish and covered in orange fur than white) but also my wife was for a while a member of our very large and prominent shul’s board of trustees. Co-op boards might think one way about denying an application of a random black woman but they might think differently about denying an application of a well-known member of a prominent synagogue (even if my wife is known by some only as “the black lady, who now has a red-headed husband and a cute as a button daughter — she’s so well behaved and so big and so smart, but she is so shy — who sits right in front of the elderly gentlemen who think they are whispering but, since they’ve lost their hearing, they are speaking so loudly that everyone can hear them”).
Wait a minute — now everyone who lives in my neck of the woods will know exactly my identity in real life!
April 7, 2010 at 1:18 pm
“although my face is more pinkish and covered in orange fur than white”
Ginger! Get a posse and ink the branding stencil!

Wew pwoggeez aren’t weawwy discussing the functional contempowawy facts about wacizm, are wew? That would be wike, so not wesser of twoo evil(s)!?
I’m so confused. What misapplied oversimplified political label am I supposed to wear to receive my daily allotment of false slander based on projected reverse-loathing?
Le’see. It’s Wednesday. Doesn’t that make me tree-hugger until sundown (after which I become a closet conservative lover)?
Damn. I remember when the train wrecks used to run on time.
April 7, 2010 at 3:32 pm
I’m still trying to understand why, when faced with two evils, one shouldn’t choose the lesser one. Seems like a no-brainer.

People like you are letting the terrorist tie to a draw.

Yikes! Did you read the comments? Here’s a gem:
“OK , we are all in agreement, that Obama is destroying America, and faster than anyone would have imagined. I’m nearly an atheist, but I’m beginning to believe there is real evil around and that evil is cunning enough to get Satan elected to the president of the US. I am not religious enough to believe in a benevolent god. If I’m right, Armageddon is just around the corner.”

There is such a variety of ways of sating I Am Stupid, isn’t there?
April 8, 2010 at 10:09 am
9-11 sent a great many people around the bend, some permanently. Now, there are people who have loaded up the truck and moved to crazy town as a result of having a black Democrat as President.
Actually, I think they’re mostly the same people.
I can’t wait to see the next thing that shatters their collective psyche. Whatever it is, you can bet it will involve one or more people who aren’t white.
April 8, 2010 at 12:19 pm
Is true. We Boomers who wondered why our parents were such dittoheads regarding Nam can perhaps find some explanation in them being young and impressionable on 12-7-1941.
