Book burning is antithetical to American ideals. People have a constitutional right to burn a Koran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation – much like building a mosque at Ground Zero.
Similarly, calling black people ni**ers is insensitive, much like black people moving in to your neighborhood.

Perfect analogy. Palin does not realize that she is helping to foment religious bigotry, and if she did, she wouldn’t care. I used to find her entertaining, in a Jethro Bodine kind of way, now I find her despicable, even before reading the Vanity Fair article.

building a church, always good.
burning a church, always bad.
have a good weekend, class.

In other news, Sarah Palin, Our Lady of Perpetual Butthurt, is still a bitch.

She gives bitches a bad name.

I totally thought this was a “shorter version” and then I saw that is was an actual quote. Like someone spoke those words in real time.
It’s a fucking crazy universe out there, man.

So it seems nutjob preacher Jones was actually contacted by Defense Secretary Gates. It sure would be interesting if Pam Geller, Newt, Palin, Rush, Beck, (the bad) Roger Ailes, etc, got the same treatment. I’m not saying it would be a good thing necessarily, just really goddamn interesting.

Best one-liner I’ve seen in a long time, curv3 (even if it is a two-clause sentence).

Look, I don’t care what religion people practice in the privacy of their own homes, but do these stupid Muslims have to not eat pork out in public? It’s gross.

“Snowflake Snooki”: Genius! I’ve added it to my list of other nicknames (Caribou Barbie, Bible Spice, etc.)

credit where due, I think TBogg coined the phrase. Or at least, I saw it there first.

Build the freedom mosque!
September 13, 2010 at 10:13 am
Why are Muslims not worried about upsetting 1/2 of Nation? This, to me, is not about freedom of religion, rather, lets see how far we can go w/ this. I would also like to know why millions of Muslim radicals are shown on T.V.,nightly burning the American flag, but it’s alright! In America, if you tell me you are going to burn the Bible, so what! You don’t see thousands in the street wanting to kill some innocent Muslim!

I’m sure they are worried about that. Especially because their crime is, apparently, practicing their religion. Kind of sucks to face backlash for that.
This, to me, is not about freedom of religion, rather, lets see how far we can go w/ this.
By building an interfaith community center in lower Manhattan? Wow, push the envelope why don’t you. Next thing you know, they’ll be praying their too! And not to Jesus!
I would also like to know why millions of Muslim radicals are shown on T.V.,nightly burning the American flag, but it’s alright!
I would like to know which channel you’re watching that has millions every night burning the flag. Sounds exhausting for the arsonists.
In America, if you tell me you are going to burn the Bible, so what! You don’t see thousands in the street wanting to kill some innocent Muslim!
We don’t do it from the streets so much as from unmanned drones and other aircraft. But more innocent Muslims end up dead than the other way around.

curv3ball doesn’t get it. This has everything to do w/ religion! If Muslims want to build at Pearl Harbor, go ahead. If Japan wants to build on that sight, I guess let them go ahead, right? Forget about the millions lost in WW11? Even Japan has a conscience, something some folks have seemingly lost! What a celebration the Islamic nation will have. 1st, no, 2nd victory on U S soil!!!
September 13, 2010 at 5:10 pm
You’re just pretending to be as stupid as you appear, right? I mean, no one who can spell conscience, w/ or w/out spellcheck, can be that dumb.
September 14, 2010 at 4:00 am
But Muslims didn’t perpetrate 9/11, al-Qaeda did. Much as Bin Laden would like, al-Qaeda doesn’t represent all Muslims.
Not sure why you want to give him that type of victory. Seems pretty stupid, really, if what you’re trying to do is weaken and discredit Bin Laden.
And the community center is not at the World Trade Center. It’s blocks away. Have you ever been to Manhattan? Do you know how far away it is?
PS: We didn’t lose millions in WWII, least of all to the Japanese.
PPS: There is a Japanese Shinto shrine at Pearl Harbor.
September 14, 2010 at 7:04 pm
There was a mosque in the World Trade Center when it was destroyed. Muslims died in that attack. Muslims were among the first responders. There is also a mosque in the Pentagon. Are half of the non-Moslems in the country angry about that too?
By the way, what is “the Islamic nation?”
September 16, 2010 at 1:31 pm
The Nation of Islam?
Hey but they aren’t real Muslims, ya know, they don’t do the 5 pillars thingy and don’t recite the Al-illaha.
